The Story behind the Recipe

The original recipe was born in the Cognac region of France.

As a young woman, Adele (my grandmother) met Abdessalem (my grandfather) while studying in Paris. They fell in love, and shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, Adele made the courageous decision to leave France and join Abdessalem in Tunisia, where they married and built a life together.

Despite strong opposition from Adele's family, who did everything they could to persuade her to stay, she followed her heart. That decision would shape the course of our family’s story for generations to come.

Abdessalam played an active role in Tunisia’s journey to independence and later served as the country’s Minister of Agriculture. He also owned a large citrus estate just outside Tunis, where I grew up, surrounded by the very oranges that would define our Vin d’Orange.

In this landscape, the original French recipe naturally evolved. The elegance of its Cognac origins was enriched by the exceptional intensity and fragrance of Tunisian citrus, creating a unique expression of place and heritage.

Each year, small batches were made within the family, shared among friends and close circles, becoming a quiet but cherished tradition passed down through generations.

I am proud to continue their legacy.

When I began making my family’s Vin d’Orange again in Brisbane, its distinctive character sparked curiosity and conversation wherever it was shared. It inspired me to imagine bringing this treasured tradition to a wider audience, while remaining faithful to its origins, craftsmanship and story.

Today, Vin d’Orange Origines is handcrafted in small batches in Queensland, in collaboration with our winemaking partner, Heritage Estate Wines of Stanthorpe. It brings together French tradition, Tunisian inspiration and Australian craftsmanship.

Thoughtfully crafted from start to finish, every ingredient contributes to a fortified wine of exceptional depth, freshness and balance.

A new chapter has begun.
